Expression & Performance

Good vocal technique can impress. But it is expression and performance that make the audience listen.

What is expression?

Some call it x-factor. That special attraction where you not only hear a voice, but also feel the person behind it. It may sound inexplicable - but actually much of it can be trained.

A strong expression arises when:

  • Lyrics and music work together
  • Timbre and phrasing support the message
  • The body expresses what the voice conveys

It’s not about “acting”, but about conveying a message. That’s when the expression becomes more genuine and present.

The body as a partner

The audience reads body language just as much as sound. Tension and nervousness can be seen - even when the voice sounds fine on the surface.

That’s why we work with:

  • Grounding and posture
  • Breathing and relaxation
  • Presence and staying in the moment

A free voice requires a free body. When the body works with you, the expression becomes stronger.

Performance can be trained

Stage presence is not innate - it is a skill that can be trained. When you become aware of your body language and your expression, you become both freer as a singer and more present for your audience.
